The Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation hopes you are healthy and staying safe. We want to share our latest update on the progress of the future Eastern Shore of Virginia Regional Library and Heritage Center currently being built in Parksley.

The Eastern Shore of Virginia’s heritage is now being recognized on the national level with a grant award of $500,000 to help in its preservation and accessibility.

Eastern Shore Public Library recently hosted an archives consultant to evaluate the preservation needs of the library’s local history collections. The consultant was funded by a National Endowment for the Humanities Preservation Assistance Grant.

Accomack County held a pre-bid meeting for contractors planning to bid on the new regional library in Parksley, Virginia on April 3, 2019.

Cara Burton recently presented the Soroptimist Club of Accomack County a progress report focused on the planned Eastern Shore Heritage Center and how the new facility will better serve Accomack and Northampton Counties with advanced technology, community involvement serving all ages, and preserving our Heritage.

The Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation has started a capital campaign for the Eastern Shore of Virginia Heritage Center to be located in the regional library being built in Parksley, Virginia.

The new Heritage Center’s vision is to protect, preserve, and make accessible all current and future collections of verbal and photographic records of the 400 year history and genealogy of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

This 1959 Mark 9 was donated to the Eastern Shore Public Library to help raise money for a badly needed new main library in this rural area in coastal Virginia.

Saving Eastern Shore history has become a focus of community support for the new regional library to be built in Parksley, Virginia. Eastern Shore Public Library Board of Trustees recently approved naming the addition to the former grocery store the “Eastern Shore of Virginia Heritage Center” which will house archives, a research room, lecture hall, and makerspace.

Nonprofit organizations and other grantseekers on the Eastern Shore of Virginia looking for funding sources now have access to a valuable new collection of resources at Eastern Shore Public Library in Accomac, which has become a Funding Information Network partner with Foundation Center.

The Eastern Shore Public Library will hold two public information meetings with updated conceptual drawings on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. 

Colette Nelson recently received the “2017 Outstanding Community Leader” award from the Eastern Shore Center for Independent Living (ESCIL) because of her dedicated involvement with the Eastern Shore Public Library.

We are closing our greatest fiscal year since our founding in November 2009, thanks to the July 2016 capital campaign. But before I get to the highlights, there is one critical fact I must assert: everything that we achieved at the end of our last fiscal year on June 30, was thanks to the support and generosity of each one of you.
