The Foundation

The Eastern Shore of Virginia Public Library Foundation was founded in 2009 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization to raise funds for an Eastern Shore Regional central library.  Now that the beautiful Regional Library building is open in Parksley, the Foundation is working to raise funds for other projects to strengthen all four Eastern Shore public libraries.  The Foundation has a dedicated board of directors and a group of talented volunteers who help with our fundraising events.

The Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation was created when the Board of Trustees of the ESV Public Library System and the Friends of the Eastern Shore Public Library identified the need for a Regional library in 2006. In 2009, they created the Foundation as the nonprofit organization that would raise funds for that library and future projects. The Foundation is led by a Board of Directors who set policy and raise funds through annual appeals for donations, legacy gifts, grants, and fundraising events such as the springtime “Raising the Green” benefit.

The Foundation raised over $4 million in state and federal funds and grants, corporate donations and generous private gifts from hundreds of citizens toward the Regional Library and Heritage Center building in Parksley. The building opened in September 2023.
