Our Library System

The Eastern Shore of Virginia Public Library System is one of 16 regional library systems in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its headquarters is the Eastern Shore Regional Library in Parksley. The Northampton Free Library in Nassawadox is a full-fledged branch of the system. Our public library system also provides staff, services and materials to the affiliated Chincoteague Island Library and services and materials to the affiliated library Cape Charles Memorial  Library.  Accomack and Northampton Counties  provide operating budgets to the Eastern Shore of Virginia Public Library System based on population.

A Board of Trustees is the governing body of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Public Library System.  Appointed by the Supervisors of Accomack (six trustees) and Northampton Counties (three trustees), the  Trustees set policy, oversee Library finances and make the decisions about the Regional Library and Northampton Free Library’s future, such as when and where to make capital improvements.

The Eastern Shore of Virginia Public Library System website is a great place to learn about the many services and activities offered by our library system. It also contains informative monthly system reports, a roster of Trustees and their meeting minutes. Visit them at https://espl.org
