At Long Last, a Regional Library for the Eastern Shore - By Curtis J. Badger

In 2009 Barack Obama took office as the first Black president of the United States. The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies to win the World Series, and Slumdog Millionaire won an Oscar as best motion picture. Closer to home, a group of Eastern Shore residents and one descendant formed a foundation to raise money to build a new regional library to replace the outdated, inadequate facility in Accomac.

Thank You Giving Tuesday Donors!

Your generosity on Giving Tuesday, 29 Nov, 2022, raised $9,000 for the Northampton Free Library in Nassawadox. The funds donated will be used to install a video security system, make plumbing repairs, replace threadbare carpeting and provide signage for the local history collection. Future fundraising will benefit the regional system libraries that include Cape Charles Memorial, Chincoteague Island, and the new Eastern Shore of Virginia Regional Library and Heritage Center in Parksley.

Thank you for your support!!

Raising the Green - 2023

Saturday night’s “Raising the Green” was a truly memorable evening. The Moose Lodge looked elegant; the lights, the table decorations and the auction displays were perfect. The Island House Restaurant buffet was lovely and Pamala Stanley’s enthusiasm contagious. Thank you all again for helping us bring back our annual fundraiser with such flare!

Ask an expert in the renovation of old homes and businesses how to work up a budget for a project, and you’re likely to come up with a formula that goes like this: First, establish a complete inventory of materials and their costs. Then, working with sub-contractors, get a reliable estimate of the time required, and the per diem costs of labor. Add those two figures together. And then double the sum.
