Eastern Shore Public Library Awarded $5,000 Grant from PNC Foundation

Accomac, VA, July 21, 2017 — The Eastern Shore Public Library has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to support the planning and development of a new regional library.

The Eastern Shore Public Library’s mission is to enhance the quality of community life and serve the residents and visitors of Accomack and Northampton Counties by providing access to information to meet their educational, personal, professional and recreational needs. This new facility will provide the capacity to transform how library services are delivered. There will be space for study rooms, a community room, exhibit space and more computer stations.

“PNC’s support underlines its commitment to quality of life in our community,” said Cara Burton, Library Director. “We look forward to seeing the impact this new library will have on child development, literacy, civic engagement, and the wealth of other benefits public libraries can offer.”

The grant from the PNC Foundation allows the Eastern Shore Public Library to expand its offerings of library and computer services and develop additional programs for literacy for all ages, learning English, and job readiness for the 45,000 residents of this region.

“PNC is committed to strengthening the communities where we do business,” said Michelle Core, PNC regional manager. “This grant will help the Eastern Shore Public Library fulfill its vision of providing resources and technologies to the community it serves.”

The PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group (NYSE: PNC), actively supports organizations that provide services for the benefit of communities in which it has a significant presence. The foundation focuses its philanthropic mission on early childhood education and community and economic development, which includes the arts and culture. Through Grow up Great, its signature cause that began in 2004, PNC has created a $350 million, multi-year initiative to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for success in school and life.
