The Eastern Shore Public Library is $5,000 closer to its $5 million goal to build a new regional library in Parksley, Virginia, thanks to a recent donation by the Friends of the Eastern Shore Public Library. The Friends recently presented a $5,000 check to the Library’s Foundation, which is the 501(c)3 non-profit fundraising organization that supports the Virginia Eastern Shore libraries. This donation increases the Friend’s contribution to $32,000 to support the building project.
The Friends of ESPL are volunteers that hold book sales and other fundraisers to support the library, currently in Accomac. They also volunteer at library events, host lectures and children’s programs, and help prepare books for circulation. One of their most popular events is Santa’s visit when each child receives a book as a gift. The Friends of ESPL are committed to improving literacy and fostering the love of reading on the Eastern Shore. Cape Charles Memorial Library and Northampton Free Library each have a Friends group that equally support those individual libraries and have also donated to the new regional library. Anyone can join the Friends of the Library and can inquire at the library for membership information.
For information about the new regional library or to make a donation, call or stop by the Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation’s fundraising office, located at Four-Corners Plaza in Onley, at (757) 787-2500. The Capital Campaign website is www.shorelibrary.com.
