Mrs. Winifred Martin has recently become a Director on the Board of the Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation. Mrs. Martin, a resident of Eastville, Virginia, has a remarkable history as an artist and an advocate for cultural and environmental issues. A graduate of Vassar College in New York with concentration of study in Art History and History, she has appraised antiques and conducted Colonial History research. Mrs. Martin was formerly employed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and Sports Illustrated as assistant to the Circulation Art Director. She is a talented calligrapher and has taught sampler making and sailing. In 1993, she received a Center for Health, Environment, and Justice Award for helping to block contaminated soil being brought into Northampton County. Mrs. Martin was one of the organizers of the Indiantown Pow Wow in Northampton County in 2013. She is a past president of the Eastern Shore Chapter National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century.

Fitz Godwin, President of the Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation, stated "Adding Winifred Martin to the fifteen member Foundation Board of Directors is important as she brings talent and experience in community work. She can contribute in making excellent decisions about fundraising plans for the new Eastern Shore Regional Library to be opened in the Town of Parksley in 2019." The Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation ensures the long-term financial stability of the Eastern Shore Public Library by securing private financial support and grants for capital needs and endowments. Their current project is to raise funds for a new Regional Library to serve residents of Accomack and Northampton Counties. Members include local residents, the Eastern Shore Public Library Board of Trustees and library staff.
