Why We Need a New Library
Libraries provide everyone equal access to the information we all need: books, periodicals, study and meeting rooms, archives and the Internet.
The ESPL’s goal is to transform itself into a center for learning, history and community activities. The Regional Library orders, receives and processes books and materials, and distributes them to all four library locations. The Regional Library also maintains all ESPL computers, furnishes office and computer supplies, and pays for a staff person at the Island Library. The Regional Library provides Nassawadox, Chincoteague, and Cape Charles libraries services their budgets cannot afford.
Why Build the Regional Library in Parksley?
The Town of Parksley proposed transforming its empty, downtown Fresh Pride grocery store into the Regional Library. Parksley is transforming itself through technology, heritage tourism, and economic development. Parksley also offers public water and sewage systems and ample high broadband connectivity. Route 13 passes through Parksley, connecting it to the entire Shore from New Church to Kiptopeke.
What Will the Regional Library Offer?
The footprint will increase to 19,300 square feet, with a children’s room, spaces for teens to study, climate control, storage space for our important archives, mobile technology labs and Internet technology will provide better service to actual and virtual visitors.
